RICE Method for Sprains and Soft Tissue Injuries
Emergencies are never predictable. Injuries can occur when exercising, working outside, or even doing errands. As a result of these instances, pain may begin immediately. Some, though, will persevere because they believe the agony is tolerable. They have no idea that it may cause greater harm.
When dealing with injuries, it is critical to understand the fundamentals of first aid through proper healthcare education. Nothing surpasses being trained and certified in first aid, especially if you are an aspiring medical professional. It is a skill that can be applied at any time, anywhere during one’s lifetime.
Following the simple stages of the RICE treatment will save you if you suffer ankle sprains or other soft tissue injuries. The RICE approach is the simplest and quickest strategy to aid in the healing of an injured joint.
- Rest
Rest the damaged area after it has been wounded to avoid any delays in recovery. For at least three days, avoid weight-bearing activities.
- Ice
To relieve pain and swelling, apply ice to the damaged area for 20 minutes every four hours.
- Compress
Wrap an elastic wrap bandage around the injured joint to decrease swelling and the possibility of internal bleeding.
- Elevate
Elevate the injured area with pillows while resting, icing, and compressing the injured joint. Make sure to elevate the injured joint above the level of the heart.
